Messages Don't Cry
Genre: sports comedy Cast: 2 women
A brisk comedy about a preparatory seminar for participants in a half-marathon – comprising every member of the audience. In the course of her professional presentation, instructor Simona has much to explain to those present about running technique, what clothes and shoes to wear, how to manage diet, stay hydrated and maintain motivation, even about the right way to hold the winner’s trophy. The problem is, she has a sharp tongue, plus she often departs from her subject for the topic of her own history (from kindergarten to the present day), which she observes with detachment and due sarcasm. She may have a clear-eyed view of sport, but as far as everything else is concerned – her attitude towards her mother, her confusion in her own identity, her affairs of the heart – she is groping for answers. It is easier to go running in the country than to manage one’s own life. Simona’s other passion is for SMS text messaging. The bearer of her texts assumes material form and mimes its unsparing commentary on Simona’s behaviour. With lots of movement, this play represents an excellent opportunity for two dynamic young actresses. |
